Photofacial in Boston & Newburyport, MA

With photofacials, light energy is used to address skin damage and enhance tone and texture. At Suite Six Medical Aesthetics, we offer a number of photofacial treatments to men and women living in Salem, Haverhill and Boston, MA, as well as those in Hampton, Kittery, ME and Portsmouth, NH, and the surrounding areas.

What is a Photofacial?

A photofacial is a rejuvenation treatment that uses pulses of light energy to stimulate collagen production in the skin and address a number of cosmetic concerns. This is similar to laser treatments, except that laser treatments deliver a specific wavelength of light to address specific skin care concerns. Photofacials deliver a spectrum of light in quick bursts. Photofacials are typically more comfortable and gentler than laser treatments, resulting in less downtime and a more pleasant treatment experience. Photofacials can be used to address the following concerns:

  • Rosacea and vascular lesions
  • Loose skin
  • Age spots and sun damage
  • Skin tone and texture

At Suite Six Medical Aesthetics, we offer both IPL photofacials and BBL photofacials.

How Much Does a Photofacial Cost in Boston & Newburyport, MA?

The cost of your photofacial at Suite Six Medical Aesthetics can vary depending on the extent of treatment necessary to deliver your desired results. During your initial consultation, we will assess your treatment goals in order to develop an individualized treatment plan. Once we determine the treatment approach that is best for you, we will be able to provide you with the exact cost of your treatment. We accept traditional payment methods and offer financing through CareCredit® for your convenience.

What is an IPL Photofacial?

An IPL photofacial delivers intense pulsed light to the skin, heating the skin tissue and stimulating collagen production. IPL photofacials are commonly used to treat redness facial capillaries while enhancing skin tone and texture. This is different from laser treatments, which often focus on exfoliating damaged skin to produce results.

What is a BBL Photofacial?

A BBL photofacial uses broadband light, which is a form of IPL. The main difference is that BBL delivers more intense light energy at specific depths. With this precision, we are able to customize the BBL photofacial treatment based upon a patient’s unique skin care needs. This customizability often results in a safer and more effective photofacial treatment. It also makes photofacials more effective for patients with darker skin types.

How is a Photofacial Performed?

Before a photofacial, we may apply a topical anesthetic to help minimize any discomfort that may occur during treatment. However, photofacials are typically quite tolerable, so this is not always necessary. During treatment, light energy is delivered to the desired areas of the skin. This may cause a warm sensation in the skin, and some patients compare the burst of light energy to the feeling of a rubber band snapping on the skin. Photofacials are relatively short procedures, typically taking less than an hour to perform.

What Kind of Results Can I Expect from My Photofacial?

After a photofacial, patients may notice a reduction in vascular lesions and rosacea symptoms fairly soon. As collagen is produced and takes effect in the body, patients will notice a gradual improvement in skin tone, texture, and firmness. Patients begin to notice these results within a few weeks of treatment, with more significant results developing about a month or two after treatment. However, we typically recommend a series of photofacial sessions to achieve optimal results.

Is There Downtime After a Photofacial?

After a photofacial, patients may experience minor redness or sensitivity in the skin that resembles a sunburn. These effects tend to fade rather quickly, and rarely last longer than a day or two. Despite these minor side effects, patients are able to return to work and other activities immediately. We may recommend that patients avoid excessive sun exposure for a few days in order to protect the skin while it heals.
