What is CoolTone™?
Despite the word “cool” in its name, CoolTone™ doesn’t freeze the fat like Coolsculpting® does. Instead, it’s intended to help tone and strengthen the muscles in your body. The CoolTone™ device gained FDA clearance in 2019 and has been clinically proven to increase muscle mass and reduce fat. The CoolTone™ device is only available to a limited number of practices in the United States in late 2019. Suite Six Medical Aesthetics is the first clinic in the Boston region to offer this treatment.
How Does CoolTone™ Work?
CoolTone™ works by a process called Magnetic Muscle Stimulation (MMS). MMS sends electromagnetic energy into the muscles in your body, which then causes involuntary contractions. It feels like a light, but painless, muscle spasm.
The body then starts to strengthen the muscles underneath the treatment area. Over time, the muscles will become firmer, stronger and more toned. CoolTone™ is primarily intended for the improvement and strengthening of the abdominal muscles as well as toning of the thighs and buttocks.
What Areas Can CoolTone™ Treat?
CoolTone™ can build and tone muscles in the abdomen, buttocks, and legs. During a Cooltone™ treatment, an applicator is used to deliver energy to contract the muscle tissue. Approximately 25,000 supramaximal muscle contractions will occur during a single session. During treatment, the muscles respond to this intensity and begin to remodel and develop muscle tissue, similar to intense exercise. The process allows patients to receive a natural-looking tone and contours without a surgical procedure. One treatment session typically lasts about 30-45 minutes.
How is CoolTone™ Different From CoolSculpting®?
CoolSculpting® is a proven way to get rid of excess body fat and has already been established as the most effective non-surgical fat loss treatment. Cooltone™ compliments the results of CoolSculpting® by increasing muscle mass, by toning existing muscles and by resulting in further fat loss on its own.
Can CoolTone™ and CoolSculpting® be Done at the Same Time?
Yes, CoolSculpting® and CoolTone™ can be performed back-to-back to maximize results on fat and muscle sculpting. CoolSculpting® is performed first, followed by CoolTone™. The abdomen is a very popular area for a CoolSculpting® + CoolTone™ combination which reduces fat and builds muscle, all without any incisions, anesthesia or recovery!
What are Side Effects of CoolTone™?
There are some medical conditions where CoolTone™ isn’t recommended. This is why it’s highly advisable to come in for a complimentary consult to learn if CoolTone™ is right for you. Some of the more common side effects can include temporary muscle spasms, muscular pain, localized skin redness, and temporary joint or tendon pain.
CoolTone™ is performed in an outpatient setting, and most procedures last around 30 minutes. There is no downtime after a treatment session, and the patient can leave the office and return to their regular daily routine.
